Oops, it was yesterday... my great grandma's recipe!

Illustration Friday - Savour

It's that time of savour all the beautiful smells wafting in the air, and the lovely sights in the shop windows. Enjoy!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Yes, I know it's a chicken, not a turkey.
But chickens are so fun to paint....At the moment I'm taking a break from cooking: cranberry chutney - done. Bread for stuffing - toasting in the oven. Next up: brining the turkey, and mixing up all the ingredients for the stuffing...celery, apples, raisins, cranberries, dried apricots, nuts. What do you put in your stuffing?

Illustration Friday - Burning

A fire burning in the hearth is lovely this time of year!

I love November!

Happy Halloween!

There is so much going on around here important baseball game to watch! (GO GIANTS!) A pile of election material to sort through, and it's Halloween!
What will you be tonight?  This year I have the quickest, silliest costume to come later.
I'm off to carve my pumpkin...

Too much!

Too too much... too much going on, too much work, too much reading, too much school, too many obligations. I need to stop and remind myself to slloowww down and appreciate it all. I love fall, it's such a beautiful season, but I've hardly had time to notice, no I take that back, I've hardly MADE time to notice. I need to remind myself to stop saying YES to all the fun , interesting propositions that come my way, so I have time to ... BREATHE!

Illustration Friday - Spooky

Halloween and Dia de los Muertos are coming! Just got our first pumpkin today...

Inspired by Kristin Nicholas

Here's a quick pic I did last week, just frustrated with not enough time at my drawing board. This one is inspired by Kristin Nicholas' beautiful sheep photos.

Pasta alla Carbonara a Bietola

Phew! I just turned in this submission to the terrific blog, They Draw and Cook. It is still the 10th, right? At least on this side of the country it is.... hopefully that gives me another chance to get into the BOOK that is being published from all the submissions they have received. Take a look if you haven't yet , it is pretty fun to see recipes and art from all over the world!

Illustration Friday - Beneath

My pup lies beneath my feet....and I am sinking beneath a ton of reading, essays to write, lessons to plan, grocery shopping, cooking, dog walking,...oh yeah, and artmaking in there somewhere, too.

Illustration Friday - Old Fashioned

Baby Quilt - finished!

Now that this is in the hands of its owner, I can show it off here.  It was a simple pattern I got measurements for on someone's blog, I forget where now, or I'd give the designer credit. Easy and fun to make, I used lots of scrap fabric I already had. I hand quilted it, which took a while. I wanted to do more quilting, but ran out of time. Finished the night before the baby shower - phew!

Illustration Friday - Proverb

As is the gardener, so is the garden.

Illustration Friday - Dessert

New Beginnings

Lots of firsts around here, my son's first day of school ( high school jr. year - we've been taking front porch first day photos since preschool began), and our pup's first day of obedience class. I also started grad school this week, but, alas, no photo of MY first day.

Pup's favorite nap spot. (not a first, just cute)
First dog tricks. So far she has mastered (sort of): sit, stay, down, and JUMP! (she's VERY good at that one!)

Chinese and English Nursery Rhymes Second Printing!

Yes, already!...This one will be printed in simplified Chinese characters, (as the first edition was) but if you prefer the traditional, this will soon be downloadable on the Tuttle website.

Illustration Friday-Atmosphere

Here's an image from an art installation I saw floating on Lake Merritt years ago...a floating garden.

Studio Tour

Thanks for coming on the tour. And now back to this...

Meet our new pal, ROO

Well, not much to say here, except that I am very busy, training this little clever pup. And she is rarin' to go for a walk...

Illustration Friday - Stargazing

Here's an IF image... an old one, I'm just too busy with this new puppy right now to get much else done. At least she is sleeping through the night...She is still nameless, however. I'll post some more photos soon as I can get her to sit still!

Meet the newest member of our family...

Coming to our house on saturday.... excitement is building as we get ready for her arrival! picking a name...the list is long right now. Suggestions?

Edible East Bay Magazine

Hot off the presses! Edible East Bay magazine's latest....get it at your local farmer's market.
...and yeah, I did the cover.

Mockingjay Windows...

Proud parent alert here...Following in her dad's footsteps, Sophie just installed her first window display up at Mrs. Dalloway's bookstore in Berkeley....for the debut of the third book in The Hunger Games series, Mockingjay.  I've read the first book so far, it's spare but gripping.

Illustration Friday - Double

...yes, I know, it's a Dia de los Muertos image...but it fit the category!

Save the creatures of the Gulf Coast!

...or at least some of them. This original painting I did will be for sale, at next week some time, if you make a donation to save sea turtles, pelicans, or other creatures of the Gulf Coast. But you gotta move fast! Many illustrators are donating original works in this fundraiser...check it out!

Dog shopping...who knew?

We're on the search for a new puppy. I can't believe how much time it is taking...trolling the dog rescue sites, emailing, calling, setting up appointments, filling out forms.

(NO, tomato sauce doesn't work, we found out the hard way.)

Where I was yesterday...

I sold a story!

Highlights magazine just bought my reworking of this Ukrainian folk tale. It's a Christmas story about a little spider who helps a sick girl, after she saves its life. What goes around, comes around, or karma, is the theme here.
