Speechless (& Illustration Friday: Journey)

When I was a kid my mom had a canary who never sang. Never ever. His name was Sunshine, yet shortly after we got him all his bright orange feathers fell out, to be replaced slowly by drab white. He had been dyed by the petshop owner. My dad found a beautiful bamboo cage, which turned out to be full of mites that ate Sunshine's feathers. He never recovered from that episode, even after we switched him to an ugly metal cage. ...This week I feel kinda like Sunshine,  a worsening sore throat blossomed into a cold, and now laryngitis. I whispered all day at school yesterday, and had students speak for me. VERY frustrating.
Yet, there is something calm about this silent world I am in right now. Hmmmm.....

New Venture?

A few years ago Dan and I were in NYC for a conference.  One night we were having dinner at a great restaurant in Greenwich Village, Gonzo, when we came up with this fun idea. I whipped out a notebook, and the brainstorming began. Food for Thought tshirts (although I think that name is taken)...sold at farmer's markets. Which one would you wear?
P.S.  The restaurant owner thought we were critics, madly writing away, treats were sent to our table, and the chef came out to say hello. I highly recommend bringing along a notebook the next time you eat out!
